This open-plan apartment began as a minimalist shell: clean lines, lots of light, and very little warmth.

The brief was to create a welcoming, layered home that still felt modern and easy to maintain.

We focused on open-plan flow balancing lounge, dining, and kitchen sight lines, while bringing in tactile textures, warmer wood tones, and gentle contrast.

The palette centres on soft neutrals with grounded accents, so the space feels calm without becoming plain. Key decisions included height layering (coffee table + sideboard + bar stools), zoning through furniture placement, and rental-friendly upgrades that elevate the look without heavy renovation.

The result is a cohesive apartment where everyday living feels relaxed, intentional, and beautifully composed.

Open-Plan Living & Kitchen - Warm Minimal, Layered for Everyday Life

This open-plan space is designed to feel calm and connected, with the kitchen, dining and lounge flowing as one. A slim island with an integrated white worktop and inset sink anchors the plan and sets a clean, architectural line. Overhead, a trio of pendant lights, two soft cones and a faceted crystal, create gentle pools of light that zone the kitchen without blocking views across the room.

In the lounge, a marble-veined rectangular coffee table sits on a textured rug, giving the scheme visual weight at a low level. Behind it, a sleek, wall-hung sideboard provides storage while keeping floor space open; its open cubbies add styling opportunities for books and objects. A large, patterned mirror bounces light deep into the plan and visually doubles the room, while discreet recessed spots keep general lighting bright and even.

Circulation is effortless: the island edge aligns with the TV wall and a compact dining perch so movement between cooking, relaxing and conversation feels natural. Bar stools add a vertical “note,” balancing the lower coffee table and the mid-height sideboard for a coherent, layered composition. Pale timber-look flooring runs throughout to unify the zones, and a teal upholstered bench injects a soft, contemporary accent without overwhelming the neutral base.

The lounge centres on a teal blue-green velvet sofa with soft sheen and vertical channel-tufting that gives it a sculpted, cloud-like profile. Generous rounded arms and a deep, gently curved seat keep it inviting without feeling bulky, while slim black metal legs lift the piece to preserve floor visibility and lightness.

We layered in neutral chevron cushions and a zigzag fringed throw to echo the sofa’s rhythm and add a subtle pattern story. Positioned beside a slim round metal side table and a clean white wall with a vertical panel radiator, the sofa becomes a calm anchor for the open-plan scheme, tactile, contemporary, and easy to style through seasons.

Bedroom — Calm, Textural Minimalism

Calm bedroom with teal scallop velvet headboard, quilted bedding and crystal chandelier

The bedroom pairs softness and structure for a serene, hotel-calm feel.

A teal scallop velvet headboard gives the bed a sculptural focal point, balanced by quilted bedding and pale, patterned pillows for quiet texture. Light is layered: a crystal chandelier provides sparkle overhead, while warm bedside lamps sit on a marble-topped, fluted nightstand to create an intimate evening glow.

A large sash window with full-length grey curtains softens daylight and frames the leafy view, and plush carpet underfoot adds acoustic and tactile comfort. A curved cream loveseat and round ottoman complete the scheme with gentle silhouettes that keep the room open and relaxing.

The palette, soft greys, blue-greens and warm whites, delivers a contemporary, warm-minimal mood that’s easy to live with and simple to restyle seasonally.

Looking forward to putting up some photos on display so you can all see .What the designer has produced really deserves to be displayed. As soon as a couple of last items ( delayed by covid restrictions) arrive, we will do that.
